After the National kicked us out and closed the doors behind us, we stopped for a picture of the boys and made plans to drive over to the swap session that John’s online group Old Baseball Cards always sets up for the weekend. Everyone brings a
box of cards that they are willing to trade and sets up to go through everyone else’s
cards that they brought. Luckily, Mac
brought his wife to the swap session and we
were able to share a bottle of wine
and plan a wives’ alternative week for next year’s National in Cleveland that
includes spas, museums, and shopping for something besides baseball cards.
There was Rich hawking cards in a loud voice while
everyone checked their binders to see if they needed the cards, there was the
guru’s Tipton collection of gem mint cards that have been found in sewers,
fires, etc, and some kids that wandered in
and were totally stoked to find a
room full of men that were willing to give them vintage cards. So, we have now had two good trips to Chicago
to wash the taste of the first one out of our mouths. We might actually plan to come back…
