settling in to Middelburg

Today, we got to grocery shopping and I didn’t know that I could get so excited about shopping because it is usually a chore that I try to slip in between things that I want to do and get it over with as quickly as possible.  But when you are choosing things that you’re going to make and eat for the first time in almost a month, (plus the labels are in a foreign language) you take more time and find that there are some serious cravings that you have been having.  We were able to
get some staples and get out of there with an 80 euro bill, which isn’t bad I guess when you think that the meals that this will feed us will be saving probably 300 euro in total.  We have been making a list of things that we need to know in order to live in this house for the next couple of months, again, things that you take for granted knowing at home, like where the garbage goes, where the cleaning supplies are, etc.
At least we have a week with Margaret here in order to learn all these things.  We were lucky that a few stores were open today as the majority of the city is closed for holiday.  We had to look up on the internet what the holiday is and it is Whit Monday.  Never heard of it, but it is a celebration of the day after

Pentecost.  So, we are going to take the day off just like the other people in the Netherlands because you should always do like the natives when in a foreign land, plus we still need recuperation time from the trip.
