At the border, the Canadian border patrol was nice enough to
stamp Oscar’s passport, but refused to stamp mine or John’s, so the Bean
has
his first country in his passport. He
was awake for the crossing, but seemed supremely unimpressed when I told him we
had crossed into another country. He
didn’t seem to notice that the currency had changed, that he had finally left Michigan
for the first time in his life or care when we came up on the Niagara
Escarpment on the 401. And then,
traffic. I always forget how much a
waste of life it is living anywhere near a big city where you can sit at a dead
stop for untold amounts of time. I
normally hate it, but can stand it, but this time I had to get out of it to get
to a bathroom and there was a truck overturned and
taking up 2 lanes with the
emergency vehicles coming up behind us.
What a pain, at least it didn’t look like anyway was hurt. It’s a good thing that we stopped at the next
exit because there was more traffic and the drive into downtown to get to the
hotel, look for parking for the hotel, check in and find the lobby, was more
than anyone’s bladder should have to stand.
I’m starting to think that Oscar’s use of diapers is a good think that
John and I should look into. Once we got
checked in at 8pm, John had to work on his paper and Oscar and I rolled around
on the beds, me happy to be stretched out and the Bean just happy to be out of
his car seat. I think that crawling will
happen on this trip, which means that we will be screwed when we get home
because the house is still not childproofed….We ordered delivery Chinese and
John completed his ritual cigar with reading of the paper (although this was
harder in Canada because there is no smoking on the patio, the walkway,
anywhere outside the hotel really).
Oscar went down like a champ in his pack and play and we finally got to
end the day at midnight.
Sounds like is a good traveler so far!
