I have to digress from the blog
for a second. I broke a nail today on
the way to Florence’s funeral. For those of you who don’t know who Florence is, she was a very devoted follower of this blog and adopted parent for John and I. She was the one that would always let me know when I hadn’t been clear about something. She would say, “So, did you spend the night in Tennessee after driving all that way?” And I would realize that I had never put down the stopping point….but that’s what moms do, they worry about where you stopped that night and if you had “that baby in a coat” when you were out somewhere that was cold. The thought of traveling to Europe this summer without her following our travels and keeping each entry in a separate folder when it’s always available on the web makes me inexpressibly sad. And the reason this dovetails to the travel blog, is because it reminded me of the weirdest thing we saw on the way through Wisconsin. We were driving and there was a woman in the car next to us who appeared to be texting on her phone looking down and doing something with her hands. We were passing and lambasting her for being one of “those people” who people in danger by doing this when driving on a highway at 80 mph, when she lifted her hands a bit. She wasn’t on her phone, she was filing her nails!!!! I’m not kidding here, she was filing her nails while driving and while I think that this might be better than texting, I’m still pretty sure it’s not safe to engage in this activity while driving on a major interstate. But on back roads in central Michigan on the way to a funeral in Remus, MI, I think that it is perfectly normal and safe….now, on with the blog and I will try to be clear about the logistics Florence.
