Lisbon without stopping

We were looking at a ferry tour or a bus tour for the evening in
in Lisbon, but I recovered from the morning thinking that I could drive through Lisbon.  John said that he was nauseous just thinking about it, but I ignored him and decided that we had spent the money to rent a car and we should use it.  So, we headed off into Lisbon and it wasn’t good.  Not only could you not see much from the car, there was no parking anywhere and traffic was diverted several times, so John’s navigation was disrupted several times.  He really was sick from the whole thing, so we packed it in after seeing some parts of the town without really getting to see any of it.  It was easy to get back to
the apartment when you knew where you were going and we decided to stay in our part of town.  We had some tough decisions to make about if we stay in Lisbon another night or move on to the things that we wanted to do in Spain.  We decided on a late check out
with a beach visit in the morning.  We have to go to the beach, and while the Portuguese think that it’s not warm enough for the beach, us Michiganders do.  I swear, if I have one more disapproving Italian, Spaniard, Portuguese or French person look at the way
that I have dressed my baby, I will have to give them my disapproving look for wearing a parka and a scarf when it is 70 degrees outside.  I don’t judge them much for being wimps about a little chill in the wind and they better not judge me for needing AC when it is 80
degrees outside and the noise from the streets makes it so that I can’t keep a window open all night.  Rant over, but we’re finding out quickly how thick blooded we are from living in Michigan by sweating and being red faced even when it’s not that bad and Oscar not
being able to handle being in the car when the sun is on him without getting cranky.  The kid doesn’t like to sweat and the Spanish have their babies in their strollers with those heavy duty blanket cozy things that we use in Michigan winters, and even then only some times.  Even at 10am on the beach, we can feel ourselves burning and the sweat is starting even though the ocean water is cold.  I’m not getting in there, but John and Oscar have a great time running into the surf and running away from it.
Oscar can’t seem to understand that the waves come and go and there is a vicious undertow, so he gets pushed onto his butt a couple of times by the water, but seems to really enjoy it and cries when it’s time to leave.  Oh, one more part of the story when we went to the beach.  We finally found a place to park that we could leave the car for a second and not be too far from the beach, but when we got out of the car, we realize that the car next
that water's coming after me....

to us has a couple having sex in the front driver’s seat.  So, while John makes sure we’re not going to get towed here, I try to stare out at the ocean to give them some privacy before pulling my baby out of the back of the car.  I hope the baby didn’t dampen the mood for
them, but seeing a baby would put me off my game….good thing, he doesn’t know what’s going on yet.  I can’t imagine what would happen when he’s 6 and this happens….the questions would most likely last for days…..
