Curacao

We’ve never been here before and we’re hoping that it’s not a
disappointment like Grand Cayman.  The Schillims have an excursion to Hato Caves and we’re just going to walk around the town.  We get up early every morning when we dock because the gangway is two cabins away from us.  We have some breakfast and head out
into town.  Oscar and John have both been feeling poorly, so we don’t want to stray too far from the boat.  I have been having stomach pain, but no throwing up or other problems, which everyone else has been experiencing.  But the pain is not fun and ibuprofen makes it

worse.  John says I have a “slow bleed”, which it’s bad when John’s the one coming up with the horrible defect that I have instead of me.  I’m going to blame everything on motion sickness and the horrible food on this cruise.  This has been the worse cruise in terms of service and food that I have ever been on.  It’s abominable and I won’t be taking this cruise line again.  Also, I think that I’ve talked Julie into an all
inclusive resort next year so that we don’t have to worry about taking taxis to beaches, catching a boat and there will most likely have more things for the kids to do.  But, back to Curacao.  The town is beautiful and the most decorated Caribbean island I’ve ever been on.  It’s just beautiful and the Queen Emma pontoon bridge is awesome.  At the time that we get
there, it starts to open, so we get to see the whole shebang and even get to take the ferry across to the other side of town while it’s open.  We get to watch a huge freighter go through, get to play on a playground some which Oscar enjoys.  We take a leisurely
walk around and find some snacks, drinks (including a stout beer from Jamaica that John has to bring back) and find some presents for people.  Oscar falls in love with a flag of Curacao that is bright pink, yellow, green and wants it.  Which is odd, because he
doesn’t normally notice things like this and definitely doesn’t stay intent on it once he’s said it’s nice.  So, I have to get him the flag because he wants to hang it in his room.  We get to enjoy the Dutch architecture of the port and Oscar finds his
own name on a license plate stand.  We buy more in this port than we have in any other and that is still just a small amount.  I like this port though and would return here, but there are no beaches to speak of, in the part that we are in.  We return to the boat to find that the
Schillims didn’t get to go on the excursion because one of the kids got sick.  The heat is taking a toll on all of us Michiganders.  But you can’t complain because we came here for heat, it’s just the kids are wilting quickly.  I tell Julie that we need to put them in boot camp because they’re
“soft”.  Everyone feels better after we cool off though and we get to enjoy sailing out of town and decide to put off our dress up dinner for Christmas Eve as no one really feels like it anyway.
