Our first sea day and we are reacquainting ourselves with
the ship
that we were on last Christmas with different ports of call. We have already noticed that the cool kids section in the buffet where we always sat last year is gone and that means that you now have to find a table in the middle of a bunch of people who would most likely like to avoid kids, but now can’t. This isn’t a good change and it’s the first thing that Julie says to me is different and she doesn’t like. We sign Oscar up for kid’s club and spend our first couple of hours alone on a cruise that we’ve had since the Baltic cruise when I was pregnant with him. It felt so relaxing and there is the ultimate drink package that was one of our perks for booking which is turning out to be a good deal when you take John’s ability to down scotch into account. We head to a bar and hang out with Julie and Dave with the phone with us in case there is an “accident” with Oscar who is still new to potty training. Oscar seems to enjoy himself and said that we picked him up “early” before we all go to dinner to celebrate his birthday. This is another experience that doesn’t live up to the year before. We are seated in the main dining room and have the worst wait staff in the world, forgettable food and the kids are ready to leave before we ever get our entrees or Oscar’s birthday cake. We are able to celebrate with some little paw patrol cars and his presents from the kids which are small Star Wars figures that are plush. Oscar didn’t want to wear his “birthday boy” shirt because he was afraid that everyone would sing happy birthday to him, but he only learned all the other people on the boat who also had the same birthday as him.
