So, at first, I wanted to go here and was going to drag Oscar
along,
but then he realized that the Batmobile was here and there was really
old money. He was semi interested in
most things, but was going through at a clip that didn’t leave much time for
actually reading about what we were looking at.
John and I were amazed to see Lincoln’s stove pipe hat that he wore the
night that he was assassinated and Oscar said that he wanted to see George
Washington’s uniform, but then was
more interested in the smell what’s in the soldier’s camp train for eating which all smelled horrible. Like fish, vinegar, rum, apples were the only one that smelled good. He wants interactive stuff, which I totally get and he had his favorite place in the museum,
the play area. He made several different friends, one girl he said was his first girlfriend, but I’m pretty sure that he didn’t know her name. Which makes him a typical male in this day and age. Hook up, play a while,
and then forget them promptly. John and I took turns going and seeing other things while he played in the play room. The other really awesome display here was the star spangled banner that flew over Fort
McHenry when Francis Scott Key wrote our anthem. It was huge and amazing. And there was an interactive thing that told you about different parts of it, so Oscar put up with it for a while. We had lunch in the Smithsonian and it was first class food with beer and wine available. I think they understand that parents need some sustenance to get
through
these museums now. It was a nice visit
and we headed back to the hotel from there because we were all tired again. I always forget how out of shape my shins and
feet are for standing and walking all the time.
Usually it’s standing and slowly walking through a museum that gets me,
but we’ve done a lot of walking on this trip.
We’re averaging over 5 miles a day, which means Oscar is getting 10 with
his tiny legs. He says, “I loved the batmobile
and the playroom” when asked about this visit, and I’m pretty sure that he won’t
remember anything
about this in a few years. So, it will be brand new when it’s our spring break trip again in a few years. “And I liked the chips that I eated, “ he told me later. We relaxed in the hotel room for a second and then went to Big Buns and Damn Good Burgers (not sure which one is the name). Oscar got a shake and was happy, John was happy with his Mexican Burger that had fritos on it and I liked my French onion burger, which a place in Cadillac has. We tried to move toward an early night because wehave to get up super early to go to Mt. Vernon tomorrow because our boat leaves the dock at 8:30 and you have to get tickets and get on board. Oscar spends 30 minutes “cleaning” the bath tub with the shower wand and a washcloth. It’s probably the cleanest any hotel bathtub has ever been….
