Oscar’s allergic reaction is causing him to want to stay in
the housetoday because he says that he looks like a “gargoyle”. His mouth is a little red and his nose and eyes are a little swollen, but no one who doesn’t know him would even notice. I leave him at home with John and I go to the National Archeological Museum on
my own. Again, none of the men in Greece seem to notice me and that’s with no child attached to me. So, I guess I don’t rate getting objectified by men anymore. I get to the museum and get to spend as much time as I want wandering through all the parts that are open. Cycladic art and a whole wing of the vases are shut becauseit’s winter, but there are still a lot of things to see. It’s amazing how many of these things are from the Kerameikos cemetery that we’ve been wandering through in past days. These are all nice to see, but the bronzes that have been recovered from the sea are amazing. I’ve seen these things in text books ( thank you Rachel) but the pictures don’t do them justice. The museum displays them very well too, all this white marble and in the middle of these rooms with dark red walls are these bronzes that take over the space. It was very enjoyable, but I have to say that the museum shops are letting us down, none have had any eyeglass cleaners
which is John’s favorite thing to collect and nothing that jumps out and grabs me. We’re suckers for museum shops and we’re just not cutting it. Also, Greece has now jumped on the bandwagon with everyone else and there are no bad guys anymore in the figures. It’s all good Gods and Goddesses and none of the shady,
dice. I go back to the apartment to spell John so he can go see the museum and Oscar and I sit out on the porch enjoying the sunshine. It feels great here and just having a day to do nothing much is perfect after a day like Delphi. We have dinner at a place down the street that we like. We’re getting to know this neighborhood pretty well now….
