After the arch and courthouse, comes the moment in every trip where I can't figure out what to do next and take it out on John. Before you feel sorry for him too much, he plays into this scenario because it is a theme we have put into the vows of our marriage and is part of what keeps it strong...
St Louis has so many things to do and we had some good advice from others about things worth seeing here, but like the lame people we are, did not leave enough time in this city. So, I start to become a chihuahua who can't decide what to do next because I'm planning the rest of the 38 hours in that town. John is an easy going guy, but will then decide there is a particular thing that he wants to do, but (and here's the kicker) doesn't tell me that thing until I decide that it is something we will have to give up.
And, here comes a rant, there is nothing to eat within walking distance of things around here. That sounds stupid I know, but when you just want something quick, downtowns are warrens with one way roads and there are not stands of food for tourists around our sites here. So, now we are going to have to figure out what to do next and without food, which makes everyone irritable.
So, we finally get to a McDonald's, which is not what we are supposed to be eating anyway and it is filled with a lot of the homeless people of St. Louis. Which makes us both feel sad for the state of some people's lives. Sorry, my rant has begotten more rants and it's starting to sound preachy. I promise to end with something fun and the next post will be the high and low culture of St. Louis with the King and Queen of high and low culture...
