We returned from Vassar to have dinner with Scott and Michael after a bout of pick up basketball that was very intense. I used to play basketball, but when 3 guys are throwing their bodies around to the point where they are hitting the ground and rolling, I'm out...At dinner, Scott gets a frantic phone call from mom that they are stuck in Orlando without a plane to get to Houston and want to know if we can find flights out on the laptops. While we were able to tell them all the flights that were leaving Orlando for Houston this day and the next, that was about the only use that we could be.
John was the only one in the family that stayed up all night to watch the end of the first Stanley Cup game between Chicago and Boston, the rest of us went to bed in the second overtime. Up and at em the next morning to get Michael from the orthodontist and play cheesy family members, by taking his picture in the office to be the first to get his smile without braces.
We also got to get his report card with him and grill him about
every quarter and his performance, so we got our fill of surrogate parenthood for the next few months. Heading home through upstate New York in a driving rain storm and 57 degree weather that had us going through the Finger Lakes as fast as possible. We considered Niagara Falls for 10 seconds and decided to cross the border at Buffalo because of the weather. We were able to make it to our favorite winery in the Niagara wine region by 4:30pm and get a tasting and a case of our favorite wines before they closed. If you ever need a good ice wine or want to try a baco noir, Henry of Pelham winery in St. Catherine's Canada is awesome. http://henryofpelham.com/ Coming back into Michigan with a
mission to get home as soon as possible. We made it through customs in under 10 minutes!!! We were greeted by the most glorious sunset that went on and on, but none of our pictures did it justice. It reminded us of a painting at the Vassar gallery that we had just seen, so I'll
include that picture instead. The only thing that put a damper on the return to home was the gas prices!!!! It was $3.30 in Delaware and Pennslyvania and cheaper in Canada than it was in Michigan. I nearly choked when I saw $4.11 a gallon. I don't think the prices should be that off from the rest of the country...but it still didn't change the fact that we were happy to be home and Ritalin was very happy to see us as you can tell in this picture courtesy of Rachel.
