After some rest in Scranton, we took the chance to drive to Vassar to see our niece, Katherine, at her school. We got to take her out to lunch, but had a hard time recognizing her when no one had told us about her haircut. As soon as she smiled though, it was apparent that it was her. We got to drive through campus and have lunch together to catch up on her awesome life of doing art history research for the summer and planning her spring semester in Paris for 4 months...After dropping her back in the library to continue research, we played tourist on this historic campus with beautiful buildings and an awesome art museum. Most of the fabulous art was donated by alumni...and I thought my small annual contribution to Furman was
actually doing something for my alma mater...Apparently, I need to be collecting Picassos and then donating them to my school. I don't see that happening anytime soon since I haven't won the lottery to my knowledge. But we got an idea of how much Katherine must love being at this school where they have such an appreciation for art.
Back to Scranton through the Hudson River Valley and through pretty parts of New York and Pennslyvania. It's always a shock to see mountains after living in Michigan for so long, but I have to say that a state wide speed limit of 55 for New York is really lame. Speaking of lame, thanks Michigan for making it impossible for me to go to any other state and not be angry that they haven't thought of the blinking red light for turning left when there is no oncoming traffic. Delaware made me angry several times with wide open spaces that I could have turned and no way to do so. Now, if we could just get rid of Michigan lefts, this state would be perfect...
