Costa Rica

John in the rainforest of Limon park
We didn’t get up early and get off the boat as soon as we docked.  This was a hard docking though because I woke up every 10 minutes with this bobble, bobble, bobble, that I’ve never felt on a cruise ship like we were hitting something and bouncing around from it.  I still  don’t know what it was because we appeared to dock with no problem, John and I had some breakfast and walked off the ship at about 8:30.  This time we were going to do like in
Aruba and just walk around Limon on our own.  We set off and avoided all the taxis and tours that were offered, walked over to a park that was alive with birds and other wildlife, you got the feeling that you were in a rainforest right in downtown Limon.  We walked

along the wall that kept the city a little bit safe from the surf, but there were times at low tide even that the waves came up and sprayed over the wall.  We kept walking until my husband from the ghetto of Atlanta said that he was uncomfortable because of the amount of
fencing and barbed wire around the houses in the area we were in.  So, we cut back toward the port and I thought that I had seen something about free wifi in the park like Panama had.

We headed back to the park and were approached by two children wanting to know if

In 3 hours this sloth went from a ball, to this, that's it
we wanted to see the animals.  They showed us two owls sitting in the trees around us and a sloth that was curled up in a tree by us also.  They were cute, out of school, and happy to get a couple of dollars that they promptly bought cokes with.  We were able to do some catching up on the computer, return to the ship to drop off some things that we had bought.  We decided to try to find a grocery store in order to get some Costa Rican coffee because everywhere around the port was
hugely expensive.  John wanted to see the baseball and soccer stadium, so we went on a walkabout down the main street through their market district.  This is the day before Christmas and everyone is buying things like crazy.  I guess when it doesn’t get cold and everyday looks the same, you don’t get in the Christmas mood until the last second.  John has made a task of getting a picture of the Christmas decorations in every port that we have entered and I’ll do a retrospective of them for the blog.  It will

help you all that are reading this back in Michigan to get a feel for the disconnect that we feel in the Caribbean and the fact that it is WINTER…I mean, you shouldn’t be able to see a palm tree behind the Christmas tree and shouldn’t be getting sunburned looking at nativity scenes.
