An eventful night last night as we got everyone to sleep, I
realized
that the few sugar ants that we had seen earlier in the day had turned into a swarm. So, we called the front desk because I was hoping for a barrier of bug spray so that they wouldn’t leave the bathroom since Oscar is sleeping on the floor in his peapod. But, no, they want us to move rooms. John was already asleep, Oscar was asleep, but they say it’s an upgrade and we can stay the rest of the time in the new room, so we move. Oscar usually doesn’t go back down once he’s woken up, but without a nap in the day, he’s more amenable to going back to sleep as soon as we get into the new room which is most certainly an upgrade. We went from the4th floor to the 16th and have about 10 times the living space now. It’s been updated while they’re still working floor by floor on updating the rest of the hotel. But, the floor in the new room is filthy. Oscar’s socks and mine are disgusting within a half hour of waking up this morning and walking around. So, I have to go to the front desk to complain about this. But they did have a fire here the night before we arrived. Yes, a fire that had to evacuate the whole hotel and maybe this is smoke damage? I don’t know, but Oscar’s nap on this day gets interrupted by the carpet company coming to measure the floors to steamclean it tomorrow. But in
between these times, Oscar and I went exploring in the city. I got totally turned around and was going down when I thought that I was going up on the streets. So, we turned around and paid more attention to the moving map on my phone to get to the Tudor City playground. It was deserted and I had read about this playground on a mommy discussion board on NYC. They made it sound so awesome, I guess in a city of concrete it is awesome, but I’ve seen better playgrounds at McDonald’s. But Oscar didn’t care. And then the preschools and nannies arrived with their charges, so he was distracted by more kids than he’s ever seen in one space before. He finally tired of it after a couple of hours and with minimal fussing, went back into the stroller because I think he sees pretty clearly that these streets and sidewalks are not made for a toddler who’s still learning walk etiquette. We head to Rockefeller Plaza and eat on the way, but a bathroom with a changing table is a rare thing in NYC. So, the American Girl store became a stop and then we had to get
presents there. Then we headed to the Lego store where Oscar was more interested in going up and down the stairs, the airplane set that he’s way too young for, and anything else to make my life hellacious in a crowded store than just finding something appropriate to buy. We finally get involved in creating our own bucket of custom legos and get the hell out of there to watch people ice skate on the rink at the plaza. We duck into St. Patrick’s Cathedral while we’re there and hit a McDonald’s for lunch to go to the room. We need some food and a nap before making an evening on the town tonight…
