We
get some supplies at the walgreens near us, have a leisurely
morning and then hit Velvet Cream donuts on the way to the port. We figure that we have a lot of time until we eat again because we don’t get on the boat until 1:30pm and this has been a problem in our last cruises. We wait forever to
board and then it’s time for the muster drill and they close the restaurants. Unlike the other times though, it takes us longer to wait for the car to be returned at the rental car lot and Dave to get shuttled back to us than to board. We hit the first set of people who take pictures of our passports and stamp our boarding
passes, put the bags that we are carrying through security and then from there we walk up and up, take some pictures and walk on board the ship!!! It was amazing and Julie said that now she could understand why I was always so angry about boarding on Norwegian. If the rest of the cruise goes as easily as this, it will be awesome. We sign all of the kids up for kids’ club so that any of us can sign them in or out, go straight to food and then to our rooms where the room keys are waiting for us. We go to muster
which takes wayyyyy too long because there are already assholes too drunk on this ship to come to muster which is mandatory. So, they’re calling all these names in our muster area of people who haven’t shown and then finally let us go. We go back to the room and are
in swimsuits and in the pool before 4pm. Oscar’s in heaven because there is a little water slide, but he needs his new goggles because of the saltwater that they use on the boat. He tries to go down the big waterslide, but gets scared half way down and that ruins
the fun a little. He also slips in the water at one point and hits his head, so we’re already hurt on this cruise and it hasn’t even started. Our cabin is bigger than any cabin we’ve ever had with the exception of a corner cabin, so we’re liking everything so far. Carnival is scoring big so far, but then we run in to
dinner and food is going to be where they let us down consistently this cruise. While there are moments of pure bliss (the warm melting cake, the handcut fries and burgers at the burger place, the pizza, the beef) this is countered by cold portions at times, inability to get our waitstaff to pay attention to us or the kids that need to eat before us and some foods that are just inedible. Can’t have everything in one can you. All in all a good day and we’re looking forward to learning more about the ship on our first sea day tomorrow
