Delphi Part 2

Also, got to talk to Oscar about the things that we would be seeing in Istanbul that were taken from here.  It’s amazing to think that we will see the top of the serpent column with tripod at the hippodrome in Istanbul because Constantine took it there.  We’ll also get to see most of the gold and everything else
that was here before the church confiscated it when they said that pagan religions were forbidden.  Probably all those Byzantine mosaics I love are made from confiscated Greek gold to make 500 Jesus as Pancreator  mosaics all over the Mediterranean.  The museum is
where Oscar starts to act up because there aren’t things to find this time or he doesn’t find them first, wants his phone to take pictures, wants to leave.  It just hardens my resolve to go separately to the National Archeological Museum when we get back to Athens because it
makes seeing things unenjoyable.  He makes it through and becomes all smiles and sweet when we see Stratos again and he gets his olive wreath.  He loves the chilled wipes too and we actually need them because it is a beautiful, sunny, warm day.  We head to
the Athena Pronaia temple down the road and Oscar is happy again to be on the move.  We have the place all to ourselves and we can’t believe that more people don’t come to Greece in winter.  It’s fabulous weather and there are no crowds anywhere.  I can’t imagine how
much of the experience is taken away when you’re with a swarm of people all the time or waiting in line, or waiting to take a picture of something that you want to see.  We get to fill up water bottles from the spring and Oscar and John bathe their faces in it.  It’s so sweet to see
Oscar mimic everything that daddy does.  We’re taken to a restaurant in Delphi with a great view overlooking the Corinthian sea and to Oscar’s delight, goats.  Grilled feta and a lamb stew kind of dish that is served in parchment paper and as wonderful as can be imagined.  Oscar falls asleep after his spaghetti and ice cream on the trip back to Athens.  We do have time to see the lion that was erected to the Theban sacred order
that battled Phillip, Alexander the Great’s father near here.  Poor lion has been stitched up many times and attempts to steal him were frequent.  We return to Athens to have some pizza and crash with Oscar having an allergic reaction to something on his face.  I slept
with him because I was worried, but did I think about the Benadryl I packed for something like this, no.  Because I’m an idiot at times.  It’s diffused in the morning, but we still don’t know what caused it really, but believe the soap from the rest stop that got squirted in his face was the culprit.  God, I hope so because if it’s spaghetti or parmesan or ice cream, we’re in trouble.
