Last day in Edinburgh and we do some things that were favorites,
some things that we’ve been meaning to do and just spend a day enjoying the city. First, we take two bags of clothes that we aren’t taking home to the charity shops that we have been frequenting. We were able to make room for all of our purchases by getting rid of the clothes. We are lucky that we didn’t try to buy new suitcases, send stuff home from the UK which was so expensive, now we’re heading home. And this morning the UK travel ban came in, but we are going to make it home before it goes into effect. We don’t know onthis day how important this will be. We just take pictures of how there is still toilet paper available here and no one seems to be taking ridiculous amounts of any one thing home with them. The only change we’ve seen was being in the Indian restaurant and noticing that every order they had was for a delivery service. They still had a lot of business, people just weren’t coming in to have it. We head to the Meadows which is two blocks from our place and one of the reasons that we picked it
because we assumed there would be a playground there. And this is the first day we’re seeing it and it’s awesome playground. Oscar is overwhelmed in the way that he usually is when he can’t decide what to play with and given so many choices. He climbs some things that would normally scare him and tries the zipline which is fun as all get out. Or at least it looks like fun. Let’s face facts, John or I would break it if
we tried it out. Still no losing weight with all this walking….we head back over to the Greek diner that we enjoyed so much and Oscar eats his whole plate of French toast and bacon, with syrup dripping down his shirt of course. We head from here to the Royal Mile so that John can get a pint at the World’s End pub and we enjoy the street performers, the ambiance of being on the street. John has some trouble finding an
ATM that can give him a little more money so that we can make it out of the UK. One has no money, the next one has a line of 6 people and it doesn’t help that we’re trying this in the tourist center of Edinburgh. We head over to a different part of
town that takes us past the school that Rowling used as a Hogwart’s model and just wander around with no aim. We head back to the place through the park, but Oscar says he’s ready to go home and play with cars and trucks. So, we head back and rest up, pack, and I try to go back to Kama Sutra for dinner, but it’s raining and cold, windy. I can’t muster the will to go on and we just get Mexican food again from Illegal Jacks. We’ve started looking ahead to the trip home and hoping that we’re going to make it with all of the horror stories that are starting to pop up of people getting back in the country. We are glad that we’re
going through Dublin and get to do customs there. Our plane flight has already tripled in price since the ban, good thing we pulled the trigger when we did…..
