lunch with Kevin turns a bad day around

After a short trip out to the cemetery where I finally got to see Miss
Sybil’s headstone that we had to order and approve via email, we headed to Atlanta and I think the travel, the sleep deprivation, and the holidays are finally taking their toll on me.  I’m irritable and I actually feel sorry for John because he can’t do anything right in my
eyes at this point and this is with him driving and me and Oscar sleeping in the backseat.  We stop at a McDonalds and when I go to change Oscar in the bathroom and bus lets out and the ladies room is crowding with people who I want to tell to quit ooohhhing and ahhing
over my baby and just let me go get done what I have to do.  Of course the changing table is in the disabled stall and there are two women in there changing two babies, so this takes a while.  So, while I wait forever to change the baby’s diaper, I now have to go out and give him to John to then go back and
wait in line to go to the bathroom myself.  And this makes me mad at John even though it’s not his fault, just the fact that the man can go in a bathroom and pee without waiting is making me mad….when we got in the car after the cemetery, I somehow
slipped my foot under the seat and tore my toenail, which now aches and I decide to drive the last leg, while pulling out, hit the bumper of the ridiculously huge truck next to me because I would have to pull out to the drive-thru in order to see around this truck.  The owner is
sleeping in it (yes, you read that right) so we get to talk to her about the lack of damage and go on about our way and it’s turning in to one of those days.  But, luckily, it starts to change as soon as we arrive at Kevin’s new house to see his new purchase.  While there
were boxes since he only moved in two weeks ago, I thought that it was a great little house that has a lot of character.  The fact that his neighbors sit on the front porch all the time drinking, just adds to the charm as we arrived at 1:30pm.  Kevin played his fabulous Japanese synthesizer that felt so much like a real piano, it was amazing.  Oscar liked the
music and I got to ride in his new Chevy Volt to lunch.  The interior looks like you’re riding in an ipad or something…which is most likely why he likes it.  But Kevin states he’s a changed man because he didn’t even bring his iphone to lunch.  We tried to go for Barbeque, but the place was so busy that
we didn’t even stop and this was 2:30 in the afternoon.  We went right down the street to the Radial CafĂ© for lunch and got a free kids meal with our meals, so Oscar got delicious pancakes and I had a salmon BLT that the waiter recommended that was delicious.  John and Kevin both
raved about their food which included grits as sides.  Oscar likes the grits and mowed through the pancakes, my fruit and showed that he could figure out how to use a straw for the first time.  He would sip from the straw, swallow and then smile so big about this accomplishment.  It was a lunch that went too fast, but we had to get moving because Atlanta traffic is already heavy with people trying to get out of the Peach Bowl, getting to New Year’s parties and wherever else the thousands of people are going through this city….

  1. "Sipping soda through a straw"...seems to me that's from a song (long ago) but I thought of it and can't place it.
Very proud of Oscar for mastering a straw at his age.
I know just what you mean about being annoyed with a husband who doesn't deserve it, but just think...some day he'll deserve it, and you'll already have done it. It's called "being prepared"!!
    Hugs from here.
