We’re in luck, the next hotel is even nicer and they let us
check in
early. We had an uneventful drive down from Redding and even though we tried to make things to do on the way down, they just didn’t appear. I saw a sign for glassblowing when we got gas one time and that was closed, so we just headed to the hotel in Dixon, CA. We are south of Davis and seem to be in the middle of nowhere, but have a cluster of things at our little exit. We walk to the Popeye’s next door for some lunch and I try to get the boys to walk to the Walmart across the main road, but the minute we step out into the light, I can feel myself frying. The sun in Eureka was nice, even in Redding it felt good even though it make me itch, here I can tell that I’m going to be in some serious trouble. I’m already taking Benadryl at night and have found some aloe wipes that I can put on me, but my throat itching still keeps me awake at night. This allergy to the sun is capable or ruining every trip we make because no matter how much sunscreen you put on, there is always some place on your body that you forgot to cover, or some UV that gets through. We head over for some more essentials (not really, unless a new hot wheel car, clearance yarn, and baseball cards count) which are essentials to our little family. We did get some bananas too and besides we’re starting Oscar out early on the hoarding practice. We do finally get to get out the swimsuits and swim in the hotel pool. Oscar is totally into this swimming thing now because he has learned to jump from the side of the pool into our arms. We still don’t let him go under because the kid cannot understand about holding his breath, but he loves the reckless feeling of the jump. Which seems to be okay at the pool in Canadian Lakes, but for some reason he seems to be jumping straight up and then almost hitting his head on the concrete side of the pool here, so we have to call an end to the practice. Some quiet time in the room so that John can get ready for the conference he is attending the next two days at UC Davis and the whole reason that we’re on this trip.
