last night in Redding

We were supposed to come back and rest and then go to the
community pool that we saw last night with an awesome water park attached to it.  The coming back and resting went well, but the pool was closed and doesn’t open regularly until after Memorial Day.  So, we got to spend a lot of time at the playground.  This was a cool playground where even John got to try his hand at the ropes course and balancing part of the
course.  Oscar did not want to leave of course even though we watched several other family groups come and go during the time that we were there.  Time doesn’t seem to register with him when he is enjoying something.  He can do it forever without tiring, he
doesn’t become distracted and it makes me wish that I had brought my kindle or something.  We finally were able to drag him away about sunset and tried to go up to hilltop road to get some sunset pictures of the light falling on Mt. Shasta and Lassen Peak but
this didn’t work out so well.  We were able to get an In and Out burger finally which we have heard from multiple people that it is the best burger in the world.  Well, it’s not.  The concept is cool, they only make burgers, there are 3 choices of burger on the menu
and they only involve cheese or not and doubles or not.  There is soda, fries and shakes.  That’s it.  They stolen the thousand island dressing off a big mac and that’s about it.  I can’t say that I was that impressed.  Some people need to eat at Culver’s for a
butterburger or better yet, Fuddrucker’s and then they can discuss good burgers.  Let’s face it people, if you can’t order the way it’s cooked, there’s no way it can ever be the best burger in the world.  All in all, we’ve had a great 3 days in Redding.  Now, I feel like I have done the central part of Northern California for the first time.  We head to Sacramento area tomorrow and John’s conference at UC Davis.  We had discussed
hitting Lassen volcanic park before heading down, but the roads aren’t clear from 11 feet of snow, there is boardwalks across the Sulphur springs and if you step off, you lose a leg.  After the debacle in the caverns and Oscar’s lack of interest in nature so far, we decided that this would just be pressing our luck.  The Travelodge has done us good though and I’m hoping that the next place is as nice.
