We have visits the cemetery which we make before the day of
celebrating Aunt Nett’s birthday. If there isn’t a law against visiting cemeteries on your birthday, there should be. Oscar runs around the cemetery asking “’who’s this, who’s this?” about every tombstone. And once I start reading names, I’ve started a game that he doesn’t want to stop. I don’t recommend trying to teach appropriate respect and actions at a cemetery to a 3 year old while family members are making a rare visit to the gravesites of their loved ones. It kind of ruins anything that you thought you were going to get out of the experience. Oscar does seem to finally comprehend where he can and can’t walk and why we are there because he cavalierly waves at 3 graves together and says “bye grandma, bye grandpa, bye” to tombstones that are not actually his family members….The next day we get to celebrate Aunt Nett’s birthday and I’m sent to the Shoney’s in Vidalia to pick up the preordered lunch for the day. I get to get some shopping in before getting the food and
lotion that is 75% off at Bath and Body works can’t be passed over. Especially when there is one called “liquid sunshine” just like the DJ in Jamaica called the little rain shower we experienced on the beach. The Shoney’s was the busiest place that I’ve seen in a while. I had to wait for our food and saw about 25 people check out in the 10 minutes that I stood there and the everyone was replaced with someone else immediately. It was amazing. But once I got home and tried the fried chicken, I realized
why. We had a great dinner and got to spend some time with more family members. And I think that Oscar finally made the connection that daddy’s family was also his family. He also got into walking around outside and
finding pecans. We walked around for a couple of hours in total finding pecans, it got a lot easier when I was able to realize what pecan trees without leaves look like…we did fireworks for New Year’s Eve and had a hard time getting Oscar to get to sleep. Which I couldn’t understand because I had no desire to stay up for 5 more hours to see 2018. Aunt Nett gave up the fight and even I had to be called out to the living room by John when the ball was dropping so that we could finish our wine and toast the New Year. I’m obviously getting old…. Happy 2018 everyone!!!!
