Leaving Michigan for a long time....to Indiana first

The beginning of “our big sabbatical trip” as Oscar calls it.  It’s a good thing that we were stressed out about this one and were ready
to go about a week in advance, because Michigan weather made it so that we had to leave a day early to try to beat the “ice event” that was coming.  So, we got to spend what should have been our last night at home in Michigan City, Indiana.  We had two hours to get everything ready that wasn’t already in place like chargers, check the passports for the 100th time, all the confirmations and our reusable pull ups from Canada that came in the mail today and were thrown
in the suitcase immediately.  Poor Stephanie had to make an impromptu trip to Rockford to take us that far to meet Ali because Ali was working in Grand Rapids on this day.  We had an easy drive to Michigan City and a dinner at Denny’s since there was no wait before Ali turned around to drive all back to Big Rapids before the end of the world that was forecast.  I actually made John check the South Shore rail website to make sure there would be a train to catch, but nothing happened weather wise here except rain.  Eating breakfast in the hotel lobby, we found out about the 7 shootings that are currently being investigated in Chicago and coyotes on the loose in the city that are attacking kids and joggers.  Then they talked about the Ukrainian plane that was shot down by Iran and the 170 passengers all dying on board.  So, it was a great way to start the morning and have Oscar hear about.  All he said was, “and we’re going to Chicago?” when we heard about the coyotes.  So, we’re practicing changing plans before we ever even leave home.  Adaptability is our middle name on this trip.
