The Wedding in Ada

Anyway, after that uplifting start to the trip, we got to get to Ada and find our way to my sister’s house to finally see people in stages.  I forget how much goes into a wedding and we saw Mike and Evan, then Ryan, then Angel finally after she got back from the salon.  So, gradual reunions with Oscar getting used to the horse that my sister calls her “therapy dog”.  It’s a sheep dog and standard poodle mix, so it’s bigger than a Shetland pony, but Oscar gets a little
more comfortable when he can throw balls in the back yard with them.  We keep thinking that we’ll take a nap because we’ve been going since the crack of dawn and lost an hour to boot, but we mow through and hit the rehearsal dinner.  The wedding venue is a ranch and we have the best brisket, cole slaw and gourmet mac and cheese that I’ve ever had.  And there’s a pecan cobbler, which seems to be a deconstructed pecan pie….the good
news, is we get to keep this food that is left and it becomes every meal we eat for the whole weekend.  Brisket breakfast tacos, yes.  Brisket sandwiches, yes.  Brisket on it’s own with the sides….yes.  So, this weekend ended up only costing us points and a rental car, so pretty cheap all in all.  Plus, we got to be there for the wedding.  Oscar got to dance which is all he cares about at weddings….and cake.  The cake was perfect, the setting sun was great and there was an a steer that watched some of the ceremony.  The only problem with the 5am
flight was the fact that we were wasted every evening by 8pm central time.  We just couldn’t recover from that middle of the night adrenaline rush.  Which is good to know if we ever try to book a real vacation at that time.  We got to spend all Sunday with the family and get out of town on Monday as a winter storm is moving in.  We didn’t think that we were going to be able to leave OKC because the temps dropped a ton, the sand trucks were already on the ramps waiting to get to work and the wind was blowing trees down already.  When we got on the plane, the pilot asked us to get into our seats as quickly as possible to de ice and take off before the freezing rain got worse.  And I realized why this was a problem when the de icing team went to work…..it took forever.  They must have put an entire tank of de icer on our plane.  OKC doesn’t get to practice this drill like Chicago and Grand Rapids I’m thinking, midway should have a car wash style de icing platform.  But after 25 minutes, they were done and we got to take off and thankfully connected through Baltimore on the way home.  The storm hadn’t hit there yet and we wouldn’t have made it home if we had gone through Chicago.  Oscar and I got to try every scent of lotion in the Body shop and he had to buy some mango lotion and said that he was going to try a mango lassi when we got home.  Well, okay.  Anything to expand his food repertoire.  I had to dig the car out of the snow while Oscar and John waited for the luggage and the parking lot was pure ice, but we were able to make it home in the car that night after a stop at Taco Bell.
