After a fabulous night seeing a classic play that I have never seen before, Arsenic and Old Lace, courtesy of the Canadian Lakes Players and then the opening night party that is always a crush, we had a hard time coming down from the high to get to sleep. We got up early, energized, and ready to head down to Indianapolis for golf at the race course. After Dave arrived with his clubs, we went a different way than normal through the fields of Indiana on US 31. I tried to detour when we realized that we were making good time for our tee time to the Chief Menominee Monument, but realized that it was further away than we expected and got back on 131.
We avoided storms all day that were lurking on the horizons in every direction, until we got to the speedway. Lightening was visible as we approached on the interstate and it started to pour when we arrived.
We weren't going to be able to play golf, but John and Dave were able to take advantage of podiums at the golf shop to practice their teaching. After running back to the car (where I thought we were all going to be struck by lightening), we were off to find some
food. The guys at the pro shop
gave us a restaurant near the track on Main Street to try. Dawson's was recommended and well worth the recommendation. I had the best French Onion Soup since Paris, a great pot roast sandwich, Dave couldn't fit his hands around his pork medallion sandwich and I would suggest everyone try it when you are in Indianapolis. Here's the link: Dawson's on Main at the Indy speedway .
We were joined by Paul and Rachel and hit some shopping at the Goodwill and the liquor store after already hitting an earlier liquor store... As you can see, we put the purchases to good use. Here you see John, Paul, and Dave engaging in a Sappora beer tasting. They take this stuff very seriously....
