We then indulged ourselves in art for the rest of the last day in Wilmington. We started at the Delaware Art Museum and saw a lot of Pyle and Rosetti at a fast pace in order to make it to the Contemporary Art museum before it closed. I had seen a couple of Pyle's works at the Wyeth museum and wanted to share with Rachel and John when we got back to the hotel, but a word to the wise: if you want to google art by
Howard Pyle get ready for a lot of Gomer Pyle stuff to show up. When you forget the first name and supply "Homer" Pyle in the google search, then you will get a ridiculous amount of Jim Nabors pictures. This was
good for a laugh when I realized my mistake though. Anyway, Pyle was an illustrator for magazines and other publications and I did love his attention to detail. At the Contemporary art museum, there was a work that we could
all write on in chalk, a gym set up that you could work out in and even though he didn't sign the waiver and I wasn't supposed to take pictures of the art, I got a really good shot of John hitting the heavy bag.
I guess that I should wrap up Wilmington by saying that I
would love to come back here. We had good food, saw some beautiful mansions and gardens, good art, and no tax. You can't really beat that in a small state and we didn't even begin to see the tip of this tiny gem. I guess it's another place to return to...
