Chicago, some more
We got several recommendations for food, but one
place was closed because of “Rogar Pictures, set this way” and it didn’t really
occur to us that obviously someone is making a movie here. We finally found Miller’s Pub and John had
some awesome fish and chips and I got Yankee Pot Roast. We walked through Grant Park and the millions
of people
(and I do mean millions because 3 million extra people were in town
for Taste of Chicago) to get to Buckingham Fountain and walk through the park
back to our hotel to change again. We
set off to go west along the river in the sunset time and saw some unbelievably
stupid boys taking skateboards off marble stairs at the Vietnam Memorial. I say “stupid” and I stand by it because there
is just no other word for it. Especially
without any gear and elbows that are already bloody. At least, we didn’t have to watch him kill
himself or have a bone sticking out of his skin.
We came across the serious part of the set
for Jupiter Ascending that is made by the makers of the Matrix and actually saw
one of the Wachowski’s, but didn’t know it enough to take a picture. Downtown Chicago pretty much closes shop on a
Sunday evening, so if you’re sitting in Big Rapids pining for the big city, be
aware that nothing stays open later here and you have to put up with significant
smells of sewer and urine at differing intervals because of the homeless. This is especially offensive to Ali and after
seeing someone walk past us with a face mask on, I wondered if breathing in the
miasma of body effluvia is healthy for a person…
