home again

Got up early and went into town to the arts and crafts places that I had picked to get to before we left town, but guess what, they don’t open at 9am like we were told.  So, it’s freezing and there is no shopping to be done in Berea, which was the whole reason for stopping here.  We know that there is another
storm coming and we’re not sure if we will be able to stop in Ann Arbor and stay with the Amandas because we might get stuck.  So, I’m getting angry at Berea, when we could have gotten further driving if we’d known that Berea would be open.  But we were able to
stop at the Kentucky Artists Guild one exit up and look at some of the things on offer, so it ended up being a good stop, but nothing hit us hard enough to purchase.  Nonbuyer’s remorse is hitting me though…we drove up to Lexington and went to the horse park that was on our list.  We drove through and no one was taking tickets or charging for parking because there was a tractor pull that day, but this place is amazingly large and John and I could not find our
way to the things that we wanted to see even with maps periodically spaced through the park.  We finally pulled in at the visitors center and then noticed the statue of Man O War in the middle of the circle that seemed to be covered by trees when you were in the car.  We got some pictures and the most interesting leading thing that we saw was the markers from a start line to show you the strides
of the great horses.  It was 28 feet for one stride of Man O War, Secretariat was only 26, but it was enough.  We went into the gift shop and I have to say that I thought that I was a horse person because I rode dressage, jumping, steeple chase in the past, but MY GOD who needs horses on their sofa, their drinkware, their EVERYTHING!!!  Even I thought
it was a bit much, we didn’t go in the hall of champions because we didn’t have time and had to get on to Dayton, OH for their art museum.  We made it through Cincinnati okay, but when are they going to be done with this damn interstate in this 50
mile stretch?  It’s been under construction for years and looks like they are have not even begun on it yet.  We finally hit significant snow on the ground south of Dayton.  We ate lunch at the bistro in the art museum and were able to race walk through the collection pretty easily.  This is a museum that you can easily do in a few hours, unlike most of the ones that we go to and they do a pretty decent job of having a little bit of everything.  John was not impressed with the collection and of
Panama City
course the camera battery died while we were there, but we hadn’t charged it since leaving the boat, so no one to blame but ourselves.  We hurried to Ann Arbor and had dinner with the Amandas since a night there would have turned into several
Costa Rica
days there with “snowpocalyse” coming as Amanda said.  We went to Trader Joe’s by the restaurant and there was no bread!!!  It was like being in the South when  they say that there is a 20% of snow…We hit snow in Ann Arbor as we left and all the way to Lansing with a car off in Lansing that slowed us down some, but turning north to Mt. Pleasant was better and this was not the storm coming through, this
Cartagena
was just random snow beforehand.  Home by midnight with white-knuckles, we’ll take it.  Hope you guys have enjoyed our Caribbean adventure and I haven’t forgotten about the retrospective of Christmas trees that evoke a
Aruba
disconnect with the season.  Fair warning, there are old posts that haven’t been put up before coming…we aren’t in Chicago again, but I have to add it in the 2013 blog.  It’s a new year and there needs to be a new look…jo
