Royal Crescent in Bath

We decide on the fast food in order to get back to the walk, get to
try some free fudge at a nearby shop.  And I mention that their fudge looks different, because it’s not the chocolatey color that I’m used to, but the guy in the shop assumes I mean that it’s not like other English fudge, and it’s not.  It’s done like Mackinaw fudge.  When he asks me where I’m from and I saw Michigan, I mention the island and he says that that’s the kind of fudge that they do.  Which it’s being turned on the marble and smooth and creamy, so he’s right, but it’s still the color of caramel, but delicious.  And Oscar just wants to keep going back.  I tell him to move on because we come from the home of the best fudge in the world.  Our tour starts and so does the rain again, so everyone
in the little group has put up their umbrellas, which limits how close together you can get and we have the softest spoken tour guide ever.  I can’t hear anything and I give up trying.  I’m hitting that point again where I’m cold, wet, and  miserable.  We walk through a couple of stops and it seems like he’s saying some very interesting things, but who knows?  He then stops at the river, so the traffic on the main drag is front of him, there is a raging, swollen river Avon with
rapids behind him and he doesn’t speak up….are you serious?  So, I’m done.  We decide to walk up to the Royal Crescent and the Circus on our own and spend time in book stores and charity shops as we go as breaks from the rain.  We did this in the morning too on
the way to the Roman Baths, with stops in toy stores and food halls that were great stops.  We hit all the main sites and run in to our tour group again, but I’m dragging and tired, it’s time to find some real food and of course, it’s 4pm which is when no one is serving   food.  We walk around and around to find that every place is only open for drinks before settling down in a pub to have a couple of pints and wait for opening time.  I’ve hit a wall, but with some ibuprofen, a half pint of cider and some mental gymnastics of reminding
myself that cold and wet is temporary and I could be at work, or in quarantine or something, I move on.  Oscar has determined that he wants to try a hamburger and asks to go to the Five Guys Burger and Fries to try one.  This is probably just a sham to get a milkshake, but John and I go for it because we’re excited that he would try something new.  Suffice to say that this does not work out for us as he only eats the bacon off of his burger and seems shocked that there is this other meat in there.  He doesn’t want anything to do with the burger part of the burger, or the
bun, but when I steal his patty to make mine a double, he says that mommy stole his chance to have a burger because now it has mayo on it…..whatever kid.  He’s happy with his milkshake though and since he’s getting sick now with John’s cold, I’m not going to argue about it.  Oscar and I are both starting to notice the effects of the cold, but it seems to be a lot milder for me, I just hope that Oscar stays healthy.  Warm showers with a steamy bathroom for all of us tonight.
